Structural Analysis of a Car Phone Mount
ENGG 4470 - Finite Element Analysis
Sept. 2024 - Dec. 2024
Description
Applied Finite Element Analysis to evaluate how a pop socket car phone mount performs under everyday loading conditions. The geometry was created and refined in SolidWorks. The model was then analysed in ANSYS Mechanical to assess stress distribution, deformation, and potential failure behaviour, while examining the influence of material properties, boundary conditions, and applied loads.

The analysis focused on identifying high-stress regions and estimating allowable loads. The component was modelled using polycarbonate plastic, with fixed supports applied at the vent clip and a distributed load applied at the phone-contact surface to represent everyday use. Mesh refinement was applied to improve result accuracy, and the findings were used to support design decisions and overall component reliability.
