LuggEase - Luggage Loader for Taxis

ENGG 3100 - Engineering Design III

Jan. 2025 - April 2025

Description

Designed an ergonomic, vehicle-integrated luggage lifting system to reduce manual lifting injuries and improve accessibility for airport taxi drivers using SUV vehicles. The system safely handles luggage up to 32 kg using a hydraulic lifting mechanism, minimizing repetitive bending, physical strain, and ergonomic risk.

My primary contributions were in electronics and power system design, material selection, initial concept development, and project management. This included motor and battery sizing, electrical system integration, and selection of Aluminium 6061-T6 based on strength-to-weight and durability requirements. While the main focus was on electronics, I also contributed to the mechanical design by providing input on system layout, supporting CAD modelling, and assisting with structural and safety considerations. Writing detailed engineering technical documentation, including technical memos and design documentation, was also a key aspect of the project, where design concepts, calculations, and decisions were clearly presented and justified.
