Dr. Posture: Smart-Vest Live Feedback Posture Training
ENGG 4390 - Bio-instrumentation Design
Sept. 2024 - Dec. 2024
Description
Developed Dr. Posture, a wearable smart vest that provides real-time ergonomic posture feedback to help reduce slouching and prevent long-term musculoskeletal issues during prolonged sitting. The system monitors upper-body posture using a flex sensor along the thoracic spine and an accelerometer on the sternum, delivering haptic feedback when poor posture is sustained.

My contributions focused on electronics design, sensor integration, mechanical and wearable design, material selection, initial concept development, and project management. The system was built around an Arduino LilyPad microcontroller, integrating flex and motion sensors with a vibration motor and a personalized calibration feature. Mechanical and wearable design considerations were a key focus, including sensor placement, ergonomic fit, comfort, and reliable alignment during movement, alongside electrical system integration.
