Krazy Kars - Kinder Toy

ENGG 2100 - Engineering Design II

Oct. 2022 - Dec. 2022

Description

Designed and developed a mechanically powered toy car inspired by Gran Turismo, engineered to fit inside a Kinder Egg while meeting strict dimensional and functional constraints. The final design featured a rubber band–powered pullback mechanism combined with a 2:1 reduction gear transmission system to convert stored potential energy into controlled forward motion.

The project involved full-cycle engineering design, including concept selection using a decision matrix, detailed Computer-Aided Design modeling and technical drawings, prototype development using three-dimensional printing, and performance testing to improve traction and torque delivery. Design iterations addressed issues such as gear meshing tolerances, wheel slip, and power transmission efficiency.

Beyond mechanical design, the project included manufacturing and cost analysis, transitioning from additive manufacturing to injection molding for mass production feasibility, as well as break-even analysis and market strategy development. The final product integrated mechanical functionality, user-friendly assembly, safety considerations, and production scalability.
